We are a high quality children's nursery in Coventry...
...with emphasis on providing the best possible care and nurturing environment for “all children’”. We believe that all children have a right to be seen and heard in a fair and inclusive manner. We understand the day-to-day challenges faced by parents to leave their children at nursery and we have used our experiences to ensure our nursery is clean, safe and welcoming.

We have a holistic approach ...
to child development which seeks to simultaneously address the physical, emotional, relational, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of a child’s life.
We appreciate that this is largely dependent on a positive relationship and communication between the nursery staff and parents. Therefore, we endeavour to work in partnership with parents and keep them informed of all aspects of their child’s well being and progress at nursery.
Our managers operate an open door policy and are always happy to talk with parents regarding any issues or concerns.
Introduction
Welcome to Jackalberry Daycare, we are a family run business and therefore recognise the importance of working closely with parents to support the link between home and nursery life. We provide childcare for children aged between 6 weeks and 5 years, Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. The nursery is open 52 weeks a year and is only closed for Bank Holidays.
Our aim is to ensure all children are provided with an enjoyable and enriching nursery experience as their happiness and wellbeing is our main priority. We do this by providing:
-
A safe, welcoming, and happy environment, where all children can grow in confidence and independence. We plan our environment to meet the individual needs of children and we ensure there are a range of stimulating, learning opportunities available to children daily.
-
A settling in process which meets the needs of all children. Staff will plan your child’s settling period with you; some children need a gradual introduction to nursery life which builds up slowly the amount of time they stay on their own each day, until they can cope with a full session or whole day.
-
A smooth transition from home to nursery - this will help your child to feel secure and happy in their environment and enable them to continue their learning. It will also enable you as the parent or carer to be at ease and informed about how your child is managing the transition process.
-
Partnership working with Parents/carers and other professionals to meet the individual needs of all families. Our policies and procedures detailing nursery life and our working practice are available for you to view.
-
Key person/Key Partner systems for all children. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are specifically responsible. Your child’s key person will work with you to make sure that what the nursery provides is right for your child’s needs and interests. Your child’s key worker will help your child to settle when they first start at nursery and offer support to your child throughout their time with us. You are always welcome to come in and speak with your child’s key person. We also use a secure app called Tapestry as a way of electronically sharing your child’s learning and development with you whilst they are at nursery. This also includes a feature for us to share home learning activities and parents can add on children’s achievements and activities from home also. Tapestry offers a ‘Memo Page’ feature where we share monthly newsletters, updates and information for parents and home learning ideas.
-
Ongoing robust training for all staff as we know investing in their skills and qualifications enables us to provide l high quality childcare. All staff are required to complete Paediatric First Aid training.

Staffing at Jackalberry Daycare
Jackalberry Daycare have a strong, dedicated, helpful team of qualified and experienced staff who work closely together which is reflected in the nursery's positive atmosphere.

We take our responsibility for safeguarding children very seriously and we ask that you support us in carrying out this important role, our concern is always for the safety and wellbeing of all children. At nursery, we have a named Designated Safeguarding Lead and three supporting DSL’s so that there is always a member of staff with this knowledge available. We also work in partnership with other agencies such as health, education and social care. If we have concerns that a child is suffering from abuse, we have a legal duty to make a referral to social care, following the reporting process for the area in which the child lives. We will always inform parents and carers of any action being taken and work with you where possible, unless it is considered that by raising our concern with you this may put the child or staff member at risk.
As part of the nursery’s inclusive philosophy, we take account of any additional needs that a child may have. The nursery works in partnership with parents, carers, health care professionals, education and social care to ensure that the nursery best meets the needs of each individual child. We have a Special Educational Needs
Co-Ordinator who assists staff in preparing for meeting children’s needs.
We have two Health and Safety Officers who carry out extra risk assessments to ensure the building is secure and safe. All of our staff are paediatric first aid trained, and have received food hygiene, infection and prevention training, and regular safeguarding training.
Staff photographs are displayed together with their role and main qualifications. All Jackalberry staff also wear a uniform for easy recognition.
All staff at Jackalberry Daycare have current DBS checks and all staff receives regular training around child protection issues.

Policies and Procedures
Jackalberry Daycare recognise that a successful nursery requires a combination of skilled and caring people with efficient and effective key policies. We acknowledge that our key policies and procedures are fundamental to ensuring we always maintain a quality setting. Within nursery we have a folder available to all our families which contains all our policies and procedures which govern the way we operate our nursery, and these will be openly available to parents and Ofsted alike. Some are are also displayed on our parent information board.
Our policies include, health and safety, equal opportunities, child behaviour, parent partnership, staffing, nursery operations, nursery admissions, complaints procedure and Safeguarding and Child Protection.

Policies and procedures are at the heart of everything we do and for that reason they must be maintained and measured. Our regular monitoring and staff training programmes will ensure that our processes are always kept to the highest standards.
Policy content is provided by management and staff, and by referring to third party organisations such as the NDNA, and Wirehouse, who keep a library of best practice documents. Parents and carers are invited to contribute to our policies, and we send out regular surveys inviting comment and feedback.
